Horse Calculator (PPWIN4) is a ratings program that allows the user to calculate their own ratings and from these ratings create a fully adjustable market.
Below is the basic layout of the program:

The program works by selecting a horse number, typically starting with
number 1, give the horse a name (optional), then select a class of
previous race (select the class from the drop down list), the weight carried
(select the weight) and the beaten (or winning)
margin (select the value). Doing this will calculate a rating which will show in the Calculated
Rating box. If you are happy with this rating, click the Select
button:
Clicking the button will add the rating into the grid at the bottom of the screen.
Work through all the runners as required until ratings have been produced. Put in values for Wt (Weight, eg 55kg) and Barrier Penalty (BP). BP is usually between 0 and 3 depending on which ratings you are using. Any other variations can be made in the other column for each horse. (Jockey and Bar are used in another version of this program.) The program will adjust for these additions.
After completing changes for all the runners, select create a market. Creating a market will put the runners in the correct order and allocate prices based on the ratings used. The market is set to 100% with a steepness of 5.
Adding New Ratings
The ratings list is far from complete and is flexible allowing you to add in extra classes as required. From the menu, select Ratings->View. This will show the following screen:

This
screen allows you to work through the ratings, make any changes or add, delete
or adjust any ratings. Simply select the appropriate button. The ratings are
saved in a simple text file which can also be viewed in any text editor. To save
any changes, click the Update button, otherwise click cancel or close the window
by one of the other methods.
Market
The market is fully adjustable for both percentage and steepness of the calculation. Setting the market at 100% will produce the maximum number of bets, which may be good or bad, depending on your selection approach. The lower the percentage, the fewer bets will be taken. The steepness alters the weighting of each rating. The value 5 is good all around for this feature. Modify it and see the effects.
