Australian Horse Racing

The Edge

We all want to be competitive in everything we do. And no more so that with punting on horse racing.

Success in punting on horses, in fact most things reduces down to an information war - the people with the best information make the smart moves.

Books have been and still are the best source of general information, and this applies at least as much in the art of racehorse selection and staking as in any other field.

Author Paul Segar has produced textbooks which cover all aspects of punting. The books alone stand as a complete reference but also provide 'food for thought'. You can develop / improve your own ideas as well as learn some new techniques.

Each book is written in plain English with plenty of practical examples in each chapter. Browse the contents of each book or email for further information, if required.

Prizemoney Power Selection Computer Software

Prizemoney can be used as a good indicator of the class of a horse. Certainly a runner with twice the prizemoney total is likely to be a better horse than the one with the lesser amount.

However, it depends on how many runs a horse has had, its wins, places and so on. Did the horse take 100 runs to win the same prizemoney as another runner who only took 20?

Average prizemoney as given in many formguides is a better indicator of a horse's ability but again, it depends on how that money was earnt.

The Prizemoney Power Program using a secret formula incorporates those features and more to highlight the top chances. In many races, the top rated runner is successful but moreover as is the case with many Pureform products, those long priced and elusive quinella and trifecta horses are also snared.

How It Works

Basically at the start of the day the race fields are downloaded and this includes all horse, harness and greyhound events (although the latter two have not been tested using this system). The program then gathers the necessary information from the Internet and the results are calculated.

The results show the likely finish order of the horses and a rough market is given. The market has little real value but does indicate a stronger versus weaker performer based on this program.

The Sifting Process

Once the final results are shown, it is a matter of deciding which runner(s) to support.

Often horses dropping in class perform very well and so focus on horses either back in class or back in grade. A simple formguide will not indicate whether a 55 class event was stronger at Newcastle compared with Cessnock but a quick glance in most cases will be useful. Horses to avoid are those that are consistently failing in weaker events than the current race in question and when track variations make prizemoney irrelevant.
